Who Will Be The Champions Of France Spain Italy And Germany

Across Europe, the football season is getting underway. In many of the top leagues teams have already played their first or even second fixture, while in others the action is set to get underway this coming weekend.

Having looked at who will win the Premier League in last week’s article, we are now going to turn our attention to the other major leagues across Europe, namely the Bundesliga (Germany), La Liga (Spain), Serie A (Italy) and Ligue 1 (France).

Some of the world’s biggest teams will be contesting these competitions many with expectations of winning the league this season and using that as a platform to go on to secure success at Champions League level too.

However, our focus is going to be on purely domestic matters, and we will bring you not just the team that we expect to win the league and the odds on them doing so, but also the teams we think will finish in the top four positions of each of the four tables.

As always, the odds shown in this article are courtesy of bet365 Sport and they were correct at the time of writing, but may have changed in the meantime.

Let’s now kick things off with a look at how we see the Bundesliga going this season.

Bundesliga League Preview

Over the last few years, the Bundesliga has become something of a battle between three teams, albeit Bayern Munich have come out on top on each of the past ten seasons. Challenging the mighty Bavarians have been Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Leipzig and it is hard to see past those three being heavily involved at the top of the table again this season.

Bayern have seen a major change at the helm with manager Hansi Flick leaving the club to take over as the German National Team manager, with the highly rated Julian Nagelsmann coming in to replace him. The Bavarians have also signed Dayot Upemecano to play in central defence from rivals Red Bull Leipzig.

Leipzig have also lost Ibrahima Konate to Liverpool which does leave them looking a little light defensively, while Dortmund have also lost a key man in Jadon Sancho who joined Manchester United, as such, with both these sides effectively weaker than last season, I do feel they may struggle a little.

That may allow the likes of Leverkusen, Frankfurt and Wolfsburg to perhaps challenge for a top three spot this season and one of those teams may just break into that elite group this time around.

However in terms of winning the league, Bayern should do so at a canter.

Serie A League Preview

With Inter Milan winning this title last season, ending many years of dominance by Juventus, it did look like there was a change happening in Italian football, especially with AC Milan starting to come back to the fore and AS Roma making a big appointment in manager Jose Mourinho.

However, Inter Milan have had to sell a number of star men from last season such as Hakimi and Lukaku, while AC Milan have lost their outstanding goalkeeper Donnarumma, while Juventus have managed to hold on to all their key men, including striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

Add to that Maximiliano Allegri coming back as manager and things start to look very rosy for Juventus for the coming season ahead and as such, I think they are the team to beat in Serie A this season.

It will be a close battle and I expect the likes of Inter, AC, AS Roma, Atalanta and perhaps even Napoli and Lazio to also be involved in the battle, if not for top spot then certainly a place in the top four.

I think the Jose Mourinho factor will improve Roma’s standing this season and I think the Roman side will be followed by Inter Milan and Atalanta in the league table come the end of the season.

Serie A End Of Season Predictions

Juventus (4/5)
AS Roma
Atalanta
Inter Milan

Ligue One League Preview

There’s not really going to be too much of a title race in France this season in my view as Paris St Germain should be so far ahead of the other teams that it would be a huge shock if they don’t win the league by a massive margin.

You could say that about last season too, when Lille pipped them to the title, but in truth, with signings of the calibre of Donnarumma, Hakimi, Ramos, Wijnaldum and Messi coming into the club, to add to a squad that includes Neymar, Mbappe, Verratti, Di Maria and more then you have a team that should absolutely dominate this league.

The real question mark in Ligue 1 this season is not who wins it, but who finishes behind them. Monaco, Lyon, Marseille, Nice and perhaps St Etienne would be my picks to battle it out for the second, third and fourth placed spots in the table in what should be an intriguing battle.

This should be one of the easiest picks of the season as PSG should win this league by at least ten points, if not considerably more.

La Liga League Preview

After Atletico Madrid’s title win last season, it looks once again to be a battle between the big three in Spain, although I do feel the likes of Sevilla, Real Sociedad and Villarreal may be a bit closer to the top three than they have been in previous seasons.

This year it is not about who the big three have brought in for once, but more their perilous financial position, especially at Barcelona where they have been forced to let Lionel Messi leave the club and a number of other stars could follow, if clubs are willing to find their wages.

It’s a similar situation at both other clubs, although Real have been pretty active in the market with the signing of David Alaba to help offset the loss of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane. As such, I feel with Eden Hazard coming back and great quality in attack, Real are the team to beat here.

I feel they will just pip Atletico to the title this year with Barcelona in third and perhaps Sevilla just about taking fourth.
